When a CAR is needed

A CAR is needed to carry out work within the road corridor (boundary to boundary), including excavating, drilling and resurfacing, placing any pipe, duct, pole, cabinet or other structure, drainage work, and services such as gas, power and cables. The list is "not limited to". Minor works are domestic service connections and/or works up to 1 square metre that do not disrupt pedestrian or vehicle traffic; major works are excavations over 1 square metre taking under 21 days; project works exceed 21 days. Minor or emergency works already done in the past seven days are notified retrospectively.

TMP submission

A TMP must also be submitted with the CAR, through Submitica; it can go in at the same time as the CAR application. Anyone not experienced in preparing TMPs can use one of the listed local traffic management contractors. No file format is published.
