Submitting
- Where to submit a CAR
Excavation CARs start at beforeUdig (www.beforeudig.co.nz, or phone 0800 248 344), which can lodge the CAR for you. Non-excavation CARs are started on a website that the roads page links to (corridoraccess.co.nz).

- When a CAR is needed
Any excavation or physical works in the road reserve need council pre-approval before work starts (utility repairs or installs, a new driveway, closing a road for an event). Non-excavation activities that need parts of the corridor reserved, such as concerts, building maintenance, cycling events, exhibitions, festivals, fireworks, parades and sporting events, also go through a CAR.

- Standard accepted
The council's joint notice with Carterton DC (24 October 2025) says the councils would begin accepting NZGTTM-based TMPs from 1 November 2025, and that from 1 July 2026 all CARs must be submitted under NZGTTM, with CoPTTM-based TMPs no longer accepted after that date (a date that has now passed). The council's roads page, which says its information is current as at 21 July 2026, still also lists CoPTTM, so confirm the current position with the council.

Closures and road space
- Road closure application
Contact the council for a road closure for an event: email it with your request. The events page says to make a road closure application at least two months before the event. A temporary road closure fee is listed in the fee schedule. The council's notice says road controlling authorities keep responsibility for approving road closures.
